6 Day | Saturday 13 – Thursday 18 September 2025
IS THE PROCESS OF PAINTING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE END RESULT?
Explore the thinking that must go into a painting - where the end result matters - but must not get in the way of the artist’s creativity. Use colour sketches and pencil thumbnails to set yourself up for painting success. This is the tried-and-true academic process for planning and designing your paintings.
The first part of the workshop will focus on the Four Pillars of Painting: Composition, Drawing, Tonal Values and Colour. We will use this time to explore the concepts of our work, what we want to say, the mood we want to convey, the atmosphere we feel our picture deserves. The second stage of the workshop will focus on the techniques we need to learn and employ to achieve the result we want.
Each day of the workshop we will complete at least two paintings, plus numerous sketches. As a tutor my aim is to help students with their brushes ‘in hand’ most of the time. Intermediate
