SOPHIE PEREZ  |  EXPRESSIVE DRAWING & PAINTING
Please click on the images below in the gallery to view the full photo

Monday 12 – Friday 16 January 2026
This workshop will explore expressive drawing with pencil/ graphite/ charcoal and painting with gouache.

We will explore the local landscape (weather permitting) with the mornings outside and the afternoons inside to develop compositions, materials and have discussions. Ideally if they group are enjoying our plein air adventures it would be good to have a whole day outside to chase the light!

Sophie’s practise is very much about taking from the landscape what appeals/ attracts and trying to capture the emotion of the place rather than a literal interpretation. Sophie will encourage students to loosen up, use your non dominant hand and have an open mind. Drawing is very important in Sophie’s practice and describes her works as drawn with paint.

Students are encouraged to be open minded and free to try new things to discover a different approach, through their own eyes of seeing new things in the familiar. All levels

SOPHIE PEREZ Bio

Sophie Perez (née Ruderman) is a British-born artist who earned her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2003. In 2005, she relocated to Melbourne, Australia, and now lives with her family on the Mornington Peninsula, where the natural beauty of the landscape and everyday surroundings continue to shape her artistic practice.

Sophie works primarily with paint, a medium she finds endlessly challenging and rewarding. Her practice explores the expressive possibilities of colour, texture, and form, seeking new compositions within the landscape. She is particularly interested in how familiar environments can be reimagined—seen anew—while simultaneously evoking a sense of memory or déjà vu. Her work is rooted in place, drawing on the visual language of the spaces she has lived in and experienced, from the UK to coastal Australia.
