Monday 11 – Friday 15 January 2027
– SOLD OUT! if you would like to go on the waiting list please add your email below and click 'ADD TO WAITING LIST'
Sophie will guide you on how to explore mark making through drawing and printing. We will explore the local landscape in the mornings with some en plein air, visiting some of the local gnarly trees that are full of life and texture and only a 5 min drive from the college. Using long sticks and our non-dominant hand, with natural charcoal, pencil and inks, we will develop marks to describe and inform our memories. Photos will also be the window into the memory once back at the college. Working on paper and cardboard materials and several monotype print techniques, we’ll be experimenting with reduction monotype prints and dry point to develop the drawing. Students are welcome to bring their own water colours or gouache to work into and develop works created in the field. All levels

Sophie Perez (née Ruderman) is a British-born artist who earned her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2003. In 2005, she relocated to Melbourne, Australia, and now lives with her family on the Mornington Peninsula, where the natural beauty of the landscape and everyday surroundings continue to shape her artistic practice.
Sophie works primarily with paint, a medium she finds endlessly challenging and rewarding. Her practice explores the expressive possibilities of colour, texture, and form, seeking new compositions within the landscape. She is particularly interested in how familiar environments can be reimagined—seen anew—while simultaneously evoking a sense of memory or déjà vu. Her work is rooted in place, drawing on the visual language of the spaces she has lived in and experienced, from the UK to coastal Australia.
