This workshop aims to provide beginners and advanced watercolourists with a systematic framework to their watercolours. It will introduce the beginner to the essential stages of watercolour painting while allowing more experienced artists, a chance to review and refine some of their own practices. A variety of traditional and innovative methods and techniques will be promoted to allow the individual to access this fascinating medium.
We will cover planning your painting, developing washes, understanding watercolour characteristics, watercolour techniques and textures, increasing brush speed, developing composition and appreciating of shapes and values.

Rob Candy is a lover of landscapes and places. He is passionate to record places in watercolour, from stunningly beautiful landscapes to the everyday urban lane or old farm shed. Painting exclusively in watercolour, Rob enjoys the challenge of laying transparent watercolour washes on rough paper and allowing the medium to dictate the outcome.
Rob has been a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute since 2005 and is a past President of the Watercolour Society of Victoria. His watercolours have been hung at Bankside Gallery, Royal Watercolour Society, London, Royal Cornwell Gallery, Truro UK and the Royal Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh. He conducts watercolour workshops throughout Australia and overseas.
Rob leads and tutors watercolour tours to such places as the Silk Road in China, the high plateau of Tibet and the stunningly beautiful Turkey. His last watercolour tour was to Japan in 2024.
