PASTEL PAINTING TECHNIQUES

What goes into making a pastel painting? Techniques and tips such as underpainting in different media, mark making, planning, utilizing the painting tools and more; are presented within a structured workshop based on the land/sea/waterscape. Build your confidence with guided exercises and become friends with the processes while gaining inspiration to create paintings in your unique style. ALL LEVELS

LOOKING AT LAYERS - LAYERING THE LANDSCAPE
Tutor: Mahdi Chandler
Explore mixed media techniques including mark making, drip, dip, dye, print and resist with natural pigments, rust and indigo. Use a range of drawing materials, paint and other mediums on a variety of surfaces (papers and canvas) to make a series of works with a focus on colour and texture in the landscape. Learn simple book binding techniques to construct a personal record of the workshop. ALL LEVELS

MONOPRINTS AND COLLOGRAPHS FOR ALL, COMBINED WITH MIXED MEDIA
Tutor: Mandy Gunn
Explore the endless creative possibilities of monoprinting or one off prints as well as collographs or prints from collaged and built up surfaces. You will explore drawing, mark making, stencils, layering, printing with the man made and the natural, collaged and built up surfaces. These techniques can all be combined with watercolour and acrylic media. ALL LEVELS

THE SECRET LIVES OF COLOURED PENCILS
Tutor: Richard Klekociuk
Working with archival quality coloured pencils build your skills with this medium through a series of drawing processes. Techniques, demonstrations and tips with observation skills, imagination, art as therapy, the creative process, the role of research and documentation will be covered. ALL LEVELS

CONTEMPORARY WATERCOLOUR

Watercolour is a fantastic medium with many contemporary applications like allowing the water-based medium to ‘take over’ and leading you into unexpected places. Learn how to use the materials on their own and with other tools such as masking fluid, knifes, sandpaper, etc. We will use patterns, abstract compositions and your own creativity, teaching you new and advanced skills.
