Guthleben is a visual artist whose paintings incorporate Still Life, Australian flora, fauna and landscape to comment on a rapidly changing environment. Borrowing from Dutch Still Life painting and its codified language, Guthleben creates elaborate compositions of superabundant flora, to “restore” or reimagine what has been lost. Her work combines botanical observation with the texture and colour and expressive possibilities of oil paint. She exhibits and teaches regularly and has been selected for numerous prizes including The Archibald Prize, Salon des Refuses, Mosman Art Prize, Ravenswood Prize and Portia Geach memorial Award.
