HISTORICAL CHARACTER
Create your own hand-stitched character from a bygone era. Inspired by Susie’s puppets, and working from historical images or your own imagination, you will make a soft felt puppet with a wire armature, embroidered face and decorative hairstyle. They will then be clothed in detailed costumes based on historical patterns, a chance to let your imagination go wild. Intermediate*
*Reasonably competent and enthusiastic sewer.

Insta susievickery
Susie worked for over two decades as a costumier for theatre in the UK and Australia. After moving to South Asia she studied embroidery by distance learning and worked as a craft consultant and community art facilitator with projects in India, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Mexico and Turkey, responding to local materials and artistic traditions. She still works with a Tibetan handicraft group making toys inspired by their cultural heritage.
Her community engagement and development work is the inspiration for her story-telling with embroidered animations, puppets, automata and textile pieces.
