FROM OBSERVATION TO OBJECT: A SCULPTURAL EMBROIDERY MASTERCLASS
Follow Meredith Woolnough’s complete creative process, from observational drawing and design development through to finished sculptural embroidery. In this masterclass we will create drawn studies focused on collected natural specimens before translating that research into original sculptural artworks using freehand machine embroidery on water-soluble fabric. You will learn techniques for constructing freestanding sculptures as well as shadow-mounted framed embroideries. All levels*

Meredith Woolnough is an Australian visual artist based in Newcastle, NSW. Best known for her intricate embroidered sculptures, she uses a domestic sewing machine as a drawing tool to create delicate openwork artworks inspired by the networks, patterns and structures found in nature, with a particular fascination for coral, leaves and shells.
Drawing on her backgrounds in Fine Art, Natural History Illustration and education, Meredith's work explores the balance, interconnectedness and fragility of life on Earth. Her artworks are held in public, corporate and private collections worldwide, and she is the author of Organic Embroidery (Schiffer Publishing, 2018).
