6 Day | Saturday 19 – Thursday 24 March 2022
INTENSIVELY BLUE
this workshop is fully booked, email textures@grampianarts.com.au to go on the waiting list.
If you have always wanted dye with an organic indigo vat instead of synthetic indigo/ chemical vat, then this is the workshop for you. The organic indigo vat contains no harmful chemicals and is safe to use at home or with children. In this workshop you will investigate different types of organic indigo vats and how to maintain them for optimum results.
Explore the many aspects of shibori in order to resist-dye with indigo – clamping (itajime), stitching (nui), pole-wrapping (arashi) and many other methods. The stunning indigo blue that is produced will magically develop before your eyes. Also covered will be indigo resist paste printing and dyeing in the same vat, to produce stunning blue and white prints.
During the workshop you will be shown how to extract pigment from fresh Indigofera australis for use in your own future vats.
Because of space and vat imitations we will experiment with smaller samples so that you have the knowledge and confidence to pursue larger projects on your own and we will concentrate on a project of your choice towards the end of the week.
