2 Day | Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 March 2027
NATURE INSPIRED SURFACES: RUSTY AND GNARLY – only 2 places left! Develop a series of textured mixed media surfaces using manipulated papers, fibre felts, waxes, gilding and stitch. Processes will include momigami-style manipulation, waxing and surface treatments, the incorporation of silk and linen fibres, and papers. Use a combination of paper, cloth, and fibre, colouring techniques such as reactive paints, textures gels, sprays, rusts and patinas. Inspired by the discarded, encrusted, peeling remnants of nature. We will explore the colours and textures found with structural techniques including layering, wiring, weave, stitch (hand or machine) and more. You will have the opportunity to learn hands on techniques to create a panel overflowing with gnarly textures. All levels |
4 Day | Monday 15 – Thursday 18 March 2027
BUILDING NATURE-INSPIRED SCULPTURES: SURFACE AND STRUCTURE – only 3 places left! Create delicate sculptural forms inspired by the structures of nature and discover how wire can be used to draw into space. Using wire as a drawn linear element, participants will explore techniques for creating delicate frameworks and sculptural extensions inspired by natural forms such as pods, shells, seed heads, marine structures and skeletal plant forms. In this workshop you will learn techniques for building fabric-wrapped wire frameworks and adding delicate textures with fine looping, knotting and crochet creating surfaces which expand into space or become partially suspended, fragmented or layered. Inspired by natural forms, you will create expressive sculptural pieces that combine structure, line and surface. Add texture using fine wires through looping, knotting, twisting and simple crochet techniques. Fabric, latex, alcohol inks and pigments will also be introduced to create surface variation, colour and subtle patinas. All levels |

Alysn’s techniques are based on fibres, textiles and stitch, though following no specific traditional paths. These result in the creation of wall based, sculptural forms, wearable forms for indoors and out.
Her practice is an invitation to create pleasurably intimate connections to personal experiences through subconscious and visceral emotive interactions and is marked by a complex lyrical fluidity.
Curiosity about the human psyche; movement; form; social stereotypes around the place of textiles and stitch; coastal and marine environments and organisms; and sometimes particle physics drive the generation of my work.
