2 Day | Saturday 12 – Sunday 13 September 2026
ABSTRACTION In this workshop we will learn how to abstract a scene from nature. From photograph to the final painted scene on canvas, we will observe and apply the elements of colour, line and texture. We will also incorporate some guided writing exercises to explore the use of words and language and how these elements may assist in shaping our visual concept and overall aesthetic. All levels |
4 Day | Monday 14 – Thursday 17 September 2026
MORE ABSTRACTED… Explore how to apply your “unique self” to your paintings. They are for the absolute beginner through to the more experienced. Learn the basics in composition, colour, value, line, shape and texture as well as techniques to help you compose abstracted artworks from nature and the landscape. We will explore words and language as an additional tool to assist us in developing our concept and overall aesthetic. The classes will focus mainly on acrylic applications with some practice in mixed media such as oil sticks and graphite as well as glazing medium for layering. All levels |

Jane Thompson is a professional artist based in Brisbane/Meanjin who was raised on a grazing property in the Southern Tablelands of NSW.
Her richly coloured paintings are an expression of the dualistic nature of the every-day-visible and the felt-but-not-seen. Jane approaches the canvas with a curious reverence for the unannounced, resulting in a spirited abandon and surrender to the way in which she uses her materials.
Jane has recently published a poetry and visual art book Amidst the jewels of us, which addresses the construct of time and how we identify as a culture to the order and expectations of our day. Jane focuses on the more subtle human and spiritual experience that is undermined by the busy-ness of our modern lives. Jane’s love for language and story continues to expand and feature as an essential part of her painting process.
Professionally, Jane’s work is held in both private and corporate collections across Australia, UK, Europe, Southeast Asia and North America.
