David Isbester is an accomplished Australian artist known for his impressionistic approach and confident handling of light and atmosphere. Inspired by early Australian Impressionists, he works primarily en plein air, capturing the character and changing moods of the landscape with energy and immediacy.
With over 25 years’ experience as a gallery owner and curator, David has played an active role in nurturing artistic communities while exhibiting widely in both solo and group shows. His work has been recognised with finalist selection in the Calleen Art Awards and a Highly Commended award in the Victorian Artists Society 9x5 Exhibition.
In 2025, David was a tutor with Grampians Brushes, sharing his deep practical knowledge of plein air painting with artists from across Australia. Through workshops and ongoing teaching in plein air painting and life drawing, he encourages students to work directly from observation, develop confidence in their mark-making, and embrace creative freedom.
